The fairy tern (sternula nereis) is a bird that I hadn't seen before, until this morning's visit to St Kilda Pier, in Melbourne, Australia. I thought initially that it was just one of the many seagulls that frequent the location, but soon realised that it was a bit more svelte - admittedly, the black cap should have been a bit more of a hint! Anyway, it's a lovely looking bird, whether static or in flight.
I've been taking photos for many years, having bought my first SLR in 1990. Initially, my camera was something I used to record family holidays, but I'm now able to spend more time on photography for its own sake (and mine!). I love finding new places and things to photograph, whether near home or further afield.
